Surgical treatment for Retinopathy of Prematurity
Tiny tots are a joy to behold. They give us immense pleasure and bring immeasurable joy into their parents lives. But, premature birth of a baby can result in some very distressing changes in a baby’s eyes. These changes are called as Retinopathy of Prematurity. In severe cases, the underdeveloped retina of the eye can get detached, which leads to loss of vision.

A 4 month old, prematurely delivered child visited Dr Shirish Fegade at Urmi Eye Clinic and Phaco Centre, where she was diagnosed with a very severe Retinopathy of Prematurity disease with intraocular bleeding and retinal detachment. Our Vitreo Retina Surgeon, Dr Aniruddha Mahindrakar, successfully operated this technically difficult and challenging case at Urmi Eye Clinic and Phaco Centre at Badlapur. The general anesthesia was very competently administered by senior Paediatric anesthesiologist, Dr Dilip Chavan.
PostOperative monitoring care was handled by Dr Atul Deshmukh and Dr Mrs Gauravi Deshmukh, from Apollo Children’s Hospital, Badlapur.
